Ryan's work ethic was honed from a young age on a 160-acre farm managed by his family, where he learned the intricacies of farm management and community needs. His early life was characterized by active participation in local 4-H clubs, Boy Scouts, and various sports—all of which instilled in him a spirit of dedication and community service.
At 17, he joined the Army National Guard, a decision that paved the way for his education at Iowa State University in Ames, funded without the burden of student loans. His military service included a 15-month deployment to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon returning, Rock's interest in construction led him to Todd & Sargent, where he started as an assistant superintendent and quickly moved up to roles in project management, eventually becoming a senior project manager and vice president. These experiences laid the groundwork for launching his own business.

Rock proactively enrolled in courses that offered college credit during high school, strategically preparing for his future studies. His academic journey was briefly paused during his military service. Still, he returned to complete a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Iowa State University in 2005, demonstrating his resilience and dedication to education.
